Should Brian Williams step down permanently from NBC?

At the beginning of this month, Brian Williams was an NBC Nightly News Anchor. He had held this job, for more than a decade. Then, he uttered a couple of fibs. His first made up story was Brian being in a helicopter hit by enemy fire in Iraq, in early 2003. His second made up story involved Brian coming under enemy fire by Hezbollah, while on a trip to Israel. Next, Brian apologized to the public on NBC Nightly News on February 4 for his erroneous stories. He mentioned that he should step down from the Anchor desk, as the NBC network does an internal investigation. The next question is what does Brian Williams gain, by fabricating? From a possible psychiatric point of view, Brian is hiding feelings of unworthiness, and weakness. In the end, should Brian Williams step down from his anchor job permanently at NBC? That question will be answered in the final paragraph. In summary, Brian Williams journalistic credibility is in jeopardy. He has come forward with an apology, but can he be vindicated completely. NBC News could find other lies that Williams has told, and demote him. At this time, the public is in a "wait and see" time frame. The final question could be who would replace Brian Williams. RSG's pick would be Willie Geist. If you don't know Willie, then you don't watch the "Today" show on NBC.
