According to Paramount Global, CBS aka 'The Tiffany network' lost $40-$50 million from Colbert's late night show in 2024-2025 season. At the end of last week, CBS claimed the cancellation is due to financial reasons including the show's high costs. There is a major change in economics of late-night television even though Colbert's show received far better ratings, than Jimmy Kimmel (ABC); plus Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers (NBC). Next, Paramount Pictures will be acquired by Skydance Media in a deal that values the combined entity at $8 billion. David Ellison is the current chairman and CEO of Skydance Media. Skydance will take control of Paramount Global, which includes Paramount Pictures; CBS; Showtime, and other channels. Shari Redstone, the controlling shareholder of Paramount, has agreed to the sale of Paramount Global to Skydance. The merger is expected to be finalized in the third quarter of 2025. The merger is pending regulatory approvals from the FCC and FTC. In addition, Skydance will first acquire National Amusements. National Amusements is the parent company of Paramount Global. National Amusements will be acquired for $2.4 billion. David Ellison will be the Chairman and CEO of the new Paramount Global. Jeff Shell is the former CEO of NBCUniversal, and he will become President of the new Paramount Global. In contrast, David Ellison is the son of Lawrence Ellison. Lawrence Ellison is the billionaire co-founder and chairman of Oracle Corporation, and David's mother is Barbara Boothe. Lawrence 'Larry' Ellison has an Italian and Jewish heritage. David Ellison's sister is Megan Ellison. She is the founder of Annapurna Pictures, which was established in 2011. Megan's mother is Barbara Boothe, one of the four ex-wives of Larry Ellison.
